Agnese Kviese is well-known in the municipality as the founder and director of the Talsi Family and Children’s Support Centre, which looks after children with special needs. The owner of Pinkās in Laidze Parish, Talsi Municipality, set up a small farm to realise her dream of growing table grapes to be enjoyed fresh rather than for winemaking.
Her passion for growing grapes began with an idea and her husband’s unwavering support. When the opportunity arose to apply for European Union funding for small farms, she contacted the Rural Support Service. During consultations and joint discussions, the goal was set: to grow grapes.
In 2024, a large, 60-metre-long greenhouse was built on the Kviese family’s farm and grapevines were purchased. Around 200 vines and more than 50 exclusive grape varieties are nurtured in this greenhouse. The business is run as a family enterprise, with everyone involved and responsible for different aspects: the husband oversees the technical side of the work, while the daughters assist with maintaining and cultivating the vineyards.
Agnese Kviese’s long-term vision for the farm is to improve the productivity and efficiency of greenhouse grape cultivation, as well as to develop the farm's tourism offering. This will give visitors from Latvia and abroad the chance to taste the farm’s own grapes and purchase vine cuttings.
