The story of Jaunluntes Farm shows that a farm's growth depends not on the initial amount of land but on the ability to think long-term and make well-considered decisions. Guntis Dišlers, the farm owner, started with four Hereford heifers and 10 hectares of inherited land. He gradually built a stable and sustainable organic farm. Today, the farm manages over 500 hectares, 200 to 300 of which are grasslands and oat fields used to feed the farm's approximately 250 purebred and crossbred beef cattle. Jaunluntes was one of the first farms in Latvia to receive an organic farming certificate, and its operations are based on mixed farming—both crop and livestock.
This development would not have been possible without targeted investments and support from EU funds. Thanks to these projects, the farm was able to purchase modern equipment, including tractors, mowers, rollers, sowing combinations, and animal care equipment. This ensures high-quality production and efficient management.
The farm plans to expand its beef cattle breeding program and start cultivating organic blackcurrants in the future. ZS Jaunluntes demonstrates how thoughtful development, modern technology, and environmentally friendly farming can create a sustainable and successful farm.
