In Strenči, on the banks of the Gauja River, an idea was born for a place where people could be closer to nature and enjoy recreation at the same time. With the support of European Union funds, SIA "Rūdolfa dzirnavas" was able to start its journey in the tourism industry by implementing the project "Gauja Raftsmen's Cottages."

Each cottage has everything you need for a peaceful vacation and guests also have access to a sauna and hot tub on the premises. One of the cottages is adapted for people with limited mobility, so that everyone feels welcome and can fully enjoy their vacation on the banks of the Gauja River.

The project also received wide recognition – the "Lauku partnerība ZIEMEĻGAUJA" (local action group) nominated it for the Latvian Rural Forum Award and in a public vote, "Gaujas plostnieku namiņi" received the most public support in a social media poll. This confirms that local residents appreciate not only the courage of entrepreneurs, but also the importance of European Union funding, which allows such projects to develop Latvia's tourism sector.
