Family business in Ugāle creates the most colorful gardens in Latvia
In June 2022, SIA "FlosFloret", a new family business, was founded in Ugāle parish. The company was established with the aim of enhancing the beauty of Latvian gardens by offering a diverse selection of plants, ranging from annual summer flowers and decorative plants to vegetable seedlings and seeds. The farm also sells cut flowers, including lilies and calla lilies, and currently grows berries and vegetables for local consumption.
The last two years have seen the company undergo a period of rapid development. To operate in a modern way, ambitious projects were implemented in 2024 with the support of the EAFRD: a new greenhouse was built, a deep well was installed for irrigation and powerful equipment was purchased, including a tractor, a cultivator and equipment for planting garlic. Innovations have also been introduced in berry cultivation, with investments in high tunnels in which strawberries are grown on special tables to facilitate work and increase productivity.
The farm's success has not gone unnoticed: in 2024, the company received the Ventspils Municipality Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the 'Family in Business' category. As the owner emphasises: 'Family is the foundation of the company. We don't have employees – we have colleagues who, by cooperating and supporting each other, move forward and achieve new, big goals.'
The company's goal is to maintain the farm at its current level while maintaining a clear development perspective, gradually increasing the proportion of homegrown seedlings and expanding the area dedicated to growing berries and vegetables. This balanced approach to development enables the company to grow steadily and ensures stability, even when facing challenges in one of its areas of activity. It is planned that, in the future, berry and vegetable cultivation will account for up to 50% of the company's turnover. There are also plans to open a 'Lauku labumi' shop where customers will be able to buy farm-grown produce as well as locally sourced vegetables, fruit and berries.
