The Vilkači farm was founded in 1992 and in more than thirty years of operation, has become an example for organic farming in Latgale. Since 2016 it has been a certified organic farm specializing in fruit growing and organic product processing. With an area of 28 hectares, the farm is purposefully developing not only production but also a sustainable approach to agriculture and the promotion of local products.
2023 was a year of change when the farm was taken over by a new owner – an enterprising young man who with the support of the Rural Support Service began a new phase of development as part of the "Support for Young Farmers to Start a Business" program. His goal is not only to maintain the organic farming direction of "Vilkači", but also to expand activities in the field of tourism.
The range of farm products is wide and varied – from herbal teas and natural spices to dried fruits, berry rolls, marinades, jams, and even 16 varieties of beans. Dried vegetables, berries and frozen products are also produced, which are turned into healthy, tasty and organic snacks.
To promote public awareness of healthy food and organic lifestyles, Vilkači actively participates in exhibitions and regional events, as well as markets organized by the Latgale planning region. The farm also offers tours, tastings, and master classes, such as marshmallow or apple cheese making.
The farm has successfully used LEADER program support for its development and is currently continuing its project in the young farmer support program.
Since January 2024, ZS "Vilkači" has also been a member of the association "Latgale Culinary Heritage Center," thus actively participating in the preservation and promotion of Latgale's traditional food culture.
