Lubejas Ltd is a family-run business located in Lubejas, Vestiena parish, Madona municipality. The company was founded in 2021 and initially started with rabbit breeding, but in 2022 switched completely to goat breeding when the first four cages of goats were purchased. The company is based on the hard work of Jurģis’s and the Ļaudaks’s family.
Looking back in history, Lubejas was formed by taking over the resources, farmland and machinery, from Jurģis Ļaudaks’s father. Jurģis has a Bachelor's degree in construction from Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, and is employed in a construction-related industry, where he is constantly developing skills and capabilities to carry out construction on his own. The farm buildings were built by the owner with his own private savings. The construction of the goat barn has allowed to expand the herd and meet animal welfare requirements. The property has also been landscaped, overgrowth has been removed, the property and the driveway to the farm have been cleaned up.
In 2024, Lubejas started selling its products in cooperation with SIA Latangus. Projects supported and administered by the Rural Support Service have been implemented: Support for young farmers to start a business, which contributed to faster development of the farm, and Investments in the competitive development of SIA Lubejas. The financial support was used to purchase a tractor with a front linkage, a hay baler, a front linkage fork and a bucket, as well as breeding goats.
The company manages the family property and is involved in meat goat breeding, as well as actively participating in the activities of the Latvian Society of Goat Breeding by taking part in the cage breeding programme. Jurģis is entrepreneurial and has completed herd management courses. The enterprise manages a total of 26.49 ha of agricultural land. The farm currently has 48 animals, including 11 mother goats and 2 breeding stock. The farmer's desire in breeding caged meat goats is to prove to others that goat meat is tasty and exportable.
On 7 March 2025, at the Madona and Varakļānai Farmers' Ball, which was held under the motto “The New Successful”, the Central Latvia Regional Agricultural Board presented a certificate of appreciation to “SIA Ļubejas” for successful and innovative farming in the Latvian countryside. This is one of the examples of how a young, enterprising person is able to adapt and find the best niche for himself in order to develop, improve and be an example for other people to do business and start a business in the countryside even today.
