On 11 May 2026, specialists from the Rural Support Service - Indulis Āboliņš, Anita Bordāne and Kristīne Ilgaža - met with German experts specialising in the environment, nature, consumer protection, agriculture, forestry and rural areas. The German delegation expressed interest in the objectives and planned outcomes of the OASIS project, given that accurate data obtained through satellite imagery plays an increasingly important role in their work.

The discussions focused on how to obtain images of an even higher quality that would allow for more precise preparation of information about fields and their boundaries. In order to obtain such images using satellite data, a tool that uses artificial intelligence to enhance the quality of satellite imagery must be employed. This type of visual information is important for analysing various territories in agriculture, forestry, municipal planning and other areas. The German delegation was interested in how cooperation between the two countries is developing, the biggest challenges involved, and the requirements for implementing the OASIS project.

The OASIS project is part of the Interreg VI-A Latvia-Lithuania 2021-2027 programme and is titled “Optimising Access to Services through Integrated Earth Observation and Artificial Intelligence Solutions for Innovative Societies”. It is being implemented by the Lithuanian and Latvian paying agencies.

The project aims to provide more accurate geospatial data to help farmers in Latvia and Lithuania apply for area-based payments more conveniently and accurately. The detailed information on managed areas obtained during the project will improve the quality of agricultural monitoring and control systems, reduce the risk of errors and decrease the need for on-site inspections. This will encourage the fairer, more efficient and farmer-friendly administration of support.
