ZS Lazdu mājas is a family farm in Dekšāres parish, founded by Antons Ikaunieks in 1991, immediately after Latvia regained its independence. Over the past 30 years, the farm has experienced significant growth, becoming a modern dairy farm that aims to ensure animal welfare, continue to develop livestock farming, and increase production.
With the change of generations, the farm has been taken over by his son Lauris, who is responsible for the farm's strategic development, major decisions, fields, and agronomy. His parents are still actively involved in the farm – Antons in all matters related to machinery, while Rita is responsible for livestock supervision, including milk control, taking care of the health and productivity of the herd.
The farm's main activities are dairy farming and crop production. The farm manages 628 hectares of agricultural land, where it grows grass, red clover, alfalfa, cereals, and corn, with most of the production used for its own consumption or for feed production.
In addition to managing the farm, Lauris is also actively involved in its development projects – the farm's drainage system has been renovated, new equipment has been purchased, and a modernized dairy cow barn complex with 139 beds and two automatic milking machines has been built. With the construction of the new barn, the farm now has more than 200 dairy cows, 179 calves and breeding bulls.
The new owner believes that a modern farm cannot exist without a responsible approach to both the environment and animals. Therefore, the farm pays great attention to precision farming, efficient use of resources, and the introduction of technology.
