The Rural Support Service is participating in the Interreg VI-A Latvia-Lithuania 2021-2027 program OASIS project "Optimizing Access to Services through Integrated EO and AI Solutions for Innovative Societies" (“Optimizing Access to Services through Integrated EO and AI Solutions for Innovative Societies”).
The aim of the project is to prepare more accurate geospatial data. This will help farmers in Latvia and Lithuania to use it when applying for direct payments, for example. The results obtained in the project – more accurate geospatial information on managed areas – will improve the accuracy of agricultural monitoring and control systems, reduce the possibility of errors, and result in fewer on-site inspections, ensuring fairer and more effective support for farmers.
The OASIS project addresses an issue that is important to the Latvian and Lithuanian payment agencies: decision-making should not rely on outdated and inaccurate geospatial data, as this can lead to errors.
The project will result in the introduction of an artificial intelligence tool that will use high-quality satellite data from the EU's Copernicus Sentinel-2 program with a resolution of 1 meter. This tool will be used to create accurate satellite images, and the data will be compiled according to unified standards. The accurate satellite images will be published and made available to farmers, local authorities, researchers, and other interested parties.
The project was launched in spring 2025 and will last for 24 months.
Total project costs: €311,850.
European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funding: €249,480.
The project partners are the Lithuanian Payment Agency www.nma.lt (lead partner) and the Rural Support Service in Latvia (project partner).
