As part of the Interreg OASIS project, the Rural Support Service organised an online meeting on 25th and 26th February with specialists from the municipalities of Preiļi, Rēzekne, Aizkraukle and Krāslava to demonstrate how high-quality satellite images can be used in everyday work. During the meeting, specific cadastres (fields, buildings, etc.) were analysed to demonstrate the information available in orthophotos and various satellite images, including recent ones.

Local government representatives were very pleased with the opportunity to study specific situations in accurate images and test real-life scenarios, such as construction or other land use planning.

The LAD will continue to organise such activities in the future, as they enable local governments to learn about the possibilities of using satellite images. With more accurate geospatial information about an area, activities in that area can be planned more successfully.

This activity is being implemented as part of the Interreg VI-A Latvia-Lithuania 2021-2027 programme, specifically the OASIS project "Optimizing service availability using integrated Earth observation and artificial intelligence solutions for the development of innovative solutions." The project will result in an artificial intelligence tool being implemented that will use high-quality satellite data from the EU's Copernicus Sentinel-2 programme with a resolution of 1 metre. This tool will be used to create accurate satellite images and the data will be compiled according to uniform standards. These accurate satellite images will then be published and made available to farmers, local governments, researchers and other interested parties.
